Sasca Cultural Centre

Museums of the German community, of mining and of beer, plus the art gallery, in a village that was a mining town from 1718.

Sasca Montană was a German mining town, founded on copper. The Cultural Centre gathers what remains: museums of the German community, of mining and of beer, plus the art gallery — a room hung with paintings up to the masonry arch.

Separate from the Cultural Centre, also in Sasca Montană, is the Victor Tăutu Ethnographic Museum. That is where the collection that surprises lives: not a cleaned-up museum behind glass but a full house — linen shirts with woven belts hung on striped rugs, icons painted on glass, dowry chests, a typewriter, a cast-iron stove, and one whole wall covered from ceiling to floor with family photographs from Sasca around 1900.

Visits are arranged through the village hall, which keeps the keys.
