The Tunnels and Podul Bei

Tunnels cut by hand through the rock, along the Nera. Two hours of easy walking with the river alongside.

Gura unui tunel săpat în stânca de calcar, cu poteca îngustă care intră în el pe sub bolta joasă

The trail starts at the suspension footbridge in Sasca Română and follows the Nera downstream. The stretch that gives it its name is a series of tunnels cut by hand through the rock, said to date from the Ottoman period.

The going is easy to moderate on a well-worn path, with the river always on the left. It ends at Podul Bei, from where you can carry on towards Ochiul Beiului or turn back the same way.
