The Roman Mine
A gallery of the old copper works, three hundred metres past Cabana Șușara. Stalactites have formed inside.
Copper made Sasca a town, and the galleries dug then are still in the hillside. The mouth of the Roman Mine is visible on the right, some three hundred metres past Cabana Șușara, on the way to the waterfall.
Water has seeped through the roof over centuries and left deposits; in places there are stalactites, and clear water stands on the rock floor.
This is not a mine set up for visitors. There is no lighting, no marked path inside and no supervision. Anyone going in does so at their own risk, with a torch, and should not venture beyond the section near the entrance.
Șușara Waterfall and Gorge
Three hours there and back along the water, no difficulty. The entrances to the old mine galleries are visible on the way.
The Nera Gorges
Twenty-two kilometres of gorge, caves, overhanging paths and cable crossings. The wildest in the country.
The Tunnels and Podul Bei
Tunnels cut by hand through the rock, along the Nera. Two hours of easy walking with the river alongside.
